Lepidium sativum (Seeds) Fed to Lactating Rats as Galactogogue and Its Effect on the Weight Gain of New Born Rats upto Twenty One Days

Galactogogue in various forms like special foods, herbs etc. are being used universally around the world from times immemorial to enhance milk secretion in milkless mother. Garden cress seeds (L. sativum Linn) have galactogogue effect along with many medicinal properties.
Present work had studied the growth pattern of the experimental pups up to 21 days of their breast feeding. Result revealed that the rate of growth was highest in the treated pups from early to mid phase of lactation compared to that of control.
