Is Diabetes Mellitus related with Oral Disease? - A Review
Subscribe/Renew Journal
The relationship of diabetes and oral health has an extensive literature that has been widely disseminated. Diabetes mellitus is a very common disease where the action of insulin is disturbed. Diabetic people suffer with common oral health problems like tooth decay, periodontal disease, salivary gland dysfunction, inflammatory skin disease, and delayed healing. Oral disease is mainly due to gum and bone infection which leads to loss of tooth in adults. Systemic inflammation and infection in gums and jaw bones leads to periodontal disease which is a result of diabetes mellitus.
