TQM and its effectiveness in Technical Education

In late 1950's the concept of Total Quality Management (TQM) was first espoused by Dr. Edward Deming was basically confined to industrial sectors. Now it has been found across the world, Total Quality Management is also effective in the educational sector in general and technical and engineering education in particular.
In respect of technical education and training we have seen, most of the states in our country by and large have shown keen interest to motivate private entrepreneurs to invest. Many of such private establishments along with some government-controlled institutions have achieved excellence and competitive advantages by implomonting Total Quality Management Policy.
Most of the principles suggested by "Quahty Gurus" can advantageously be applied in Teaching- Learning (TL) Process of technical education and training.
This paper has attempted to highlight some of the issues in technical education and its correlations with TQM principles, which can suitably be applied in technical education along with some barriers of implementation. A holistic approach in customer-focused education is also discussed.
