SPECIES EROSION, THE SHRINKING BIODIVERSITY— AN APPROACH

The rate of speciation and extinction are the two simultaneous processes running anti-p arallel to each other and deter mining thenet global biodiversity at any time. About 10 million species of plants and animals are the result of the above two processes for about 3 billion years. Still we have been able to u seeven less than 0.3% of the total plant sp ecies recorded. No organism has been pointed as u seless for the mankind, so biodiversity conservation is needed. Im portance of biodiversity and the possible causes of its reduction have been discussed in nut shell along with the method of its conservation.
