RENEWABLE ENERGY TECHNOLOGY : Solar Cooling Options and Innovative Ideas on Absorption Cooling Systems

The present work reviews various solar cooling technology options in general and describes solar absorption cooling process in particular. The use of solar energy for absorption cooling system is described with the historical development. For the improvement in the function of absorption cooling system, some innovative ideas like reducing the generator temperature, increasing the allowable cooling water temperature and increasing the coefficient of performance are mentioned. The intermittent and open cycle absorption cooling systems are assessed to be most suited for solar operation because of their simple design, system operation and low maintenance for the solar collector I regenerator component. These options can be made cost effective in the forseeable future.
