Environmental Science is becoming a compulsory course oj study at various levels of our educational system. But what is Environmental Science? Is it a new name of Ecology?

Ecology and Environmental Science are not mutually exclusive but have maximum contents in common. Its ischolar_mains are deep in Ecology and also integrates many other branches of science.

Man is totally dependent on environment not only for his survival but also for his continuance. The lecture by Dr N C Datta clearly states what Ecology and Environmental Science - mean to mankind. He also mentions about the danger for - global warming, emission of greenhouse gases, ozone layer depletion, loss of biodiversity, acid rain, overuse of plastic and synthetic materials (which are non-biodegradable) discharge of hazardous wastes, etc.

Prof. Datta elaborated in his lecture - the key to survival of man and biosphere - if followed sincerely - the end of our civilization will be delayed for a long time to come.
