Anaemia affects more than 3.5 billion people in developing world in spite of several intervention programmes in which iron tablets are given to children, Anaemia is caused by significant changes in hematological parameters such as Red Blood Cell (RBC) count, haemoglobin, hematocrit, White Blood Cell (WBC) count and Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR) which could be used as biomarkers in assessing the severity of several diseases including kidney diseases.- In Vitro Effect of Vitamin E on Oxidant-Antioxidant Status of Erythrocytes in Children with Acute Glomerulonephritis

Interest has grown in the role of oxygen derived free radicals such as superoxide anion and hydroxyl radicals as mediator of tissue damage in many disease processes. Lipid peroxidation (LPO) a free radical induced phenomenon was reported to be involved in the pathogenesis of glomerular disease such as nephrotic syndrome and acute poststreptococcal glomerulonephritis (APSGN) in children. APSGN is an inflammatory glomerular disease caused by the (5-hemolytic streptococcal infection of throat and skin. Epidemics of APSGN have been reported in different parts of the world. In APSGN children, blood loses its antioxidant defence and the children might suffer from prolonged oxidative stress with increased susceptibility to LPO and osmotic lysis. Therefore, it is expected that if APSGN children are supplemented with antioxidants along with the conventional antibiotic, it could prove beneficial in the quick amelioration of the disease.- Prevention of Childhood Nephrotic Syndrome Needs a Dietary Approach

Minimal change nephrotic syndrome (MCNS) is the most common form of glomerular disease in children characterised by massive proteinuria. Corticosteroid therapy is currently recommended by German APN group (Arbeitsgemeinschaft Fur Paediatrische Nephrologie group -1990) for MCNS children. Prednisolone is commonly used for the treatment of MCNS children. However side effects of steroids (cataract, growth retardation, psychological disorders) adds to the morbidity and mortality of nephrotic syndrome patients.- Protein Quality of Soy Blended Milk, Curds and Textured Vegetable Product
