Indian market is now observing an intense penetration of High Frequency Electronics Ballasts (HFEB) in consumer applications for lighting like CFL & FTL lamps. The use of HFEB has been further enhanced manifold with popularity of T5 FTL lamps & its consumer fittings. This work reveals that majority of the consumer range HFEB are flouting the basic BIS/IEC safety norms. This study further points out that there is hardly any incremental cost or any high technology requirement to make a competitive, safe & socially accountable consumer range of HFEB.
