Life has evolved under the influence of radiation from Sun. As a result Human race, Animals, Plants have developed a variety of complex physiological responses to Solar Radiations. Environment consists of four segments - Atmosphere, Hydrosphere, Lithosphere and Biosphere. Photosynthesis caused by light has a great contribution to Ecological balance specially in atmosphere by exchange of CO2 and O2. UV radiation has germicidal effect. However Light Pollution caused by crude lighting design causes obstruction to Astronomers, glare to Driver. Various Spectrometers, e.g., Opacity meter are used in environmental control. Two third portion of earth is filled in water containing Plants, living organism, such as Fish, Coral etc. Through process of photosynthesis, under water plants absorb dissolved CO2 and supply oxygen preventing the build up of carbonic acid which can be harmful to fish etc. Light pollution around lakes prevents fish from eating surface algae, which may affect ecosystems. Lighting industries have byproduct of Mercury, Lead, Chromium, PCB, inorganic packing materials etc. causing health hazard. Light contributes power to Vision, synthesis of various hormones for living organisms. Too much exposure to Sunlight also leads to various Skin/Eye diseases. With the advancement of civilization people are stretching towards more working hours as well as artificial environment supplemented through artificial light. Prolong use of light likely to causes Endocrine disorder leading to various diseases and making liability to society. Scientific development can not be rolled back to primitive age. However complete balance between the Science (Light - in - this case ) and Ecology is needed for survival.
