The role of Manganese Sulphide (MnS) inclusion in free machining steel at the chip tool interface in metal cutting has been investigated in the present study. Whether MnS inclusion acts as a solid lubricant by forming a sulphide layer at the tool face and thereby controls the chip tool interface frictional characteristics is also the subject of the present study.
