A Concrete Case
Subscribe/Renew Journal
"What Calcutta thinks today, the rest of the World thinks tomorrow"-remarked a Civil Engineer most sarcastically, after the grand (!) discovery by the Corporation that the concrete pipes can no more be used for Calcutta sewers. Concrete is a material of proven quality since its first use as sewer pipe in the United States more than a century ago. Due to its very good adaptability in various uses, strength, water tightness, durability and the very important factor of low cost, till today concrete is unrivalled in the field of sewerage and drainage works. As such the sudden conclusion drawn by the Calcutta Corporation to oust cement concrete from sewer lines and to reintroduce brick sewers, seems to be without much reason and may be due to some bad and unfortunate experience.
