Foremanship

   Subscribe/Renew Journal

With the industrial regeneration in the country, books on industry are also being written by eminent Indian authors. Foremen are the keymen in any industry. To write a book on foreman and foremanship is really a bold venture as there are no books on the subject by Indian authors. The author has given the benefit of his long experience with the industry, to the community of foremen to develop their trade traits and ethics. In a vast country like ours, there are thousands of foremen in the industry. But more things are uncommon among them than common. There is no uniformity of standard among the foremen. The author has taken pains to bring out the principles of management and the practices by foremen. Though there are numerous books on Management this is the first book we have for review in India, written by an Indian author on foremanship or about the men who manage. There are seventeen chapters in the book dealing with organisation, financial control, production control, plant control, waste control, material control to give a back ground to the foreman. Other chapters deal with education and training in factories, staff control, human relations, duties and responsibilities of foremen, code of ethics for foremen. All the enactments, such as, Factories Act, P.W. Act. W. C. Act, I. D. Act, T. U. Act, Boiler Regulations, Electricity rules with amplification when required have been summarised in Part II of the book, which will stand in good stead to all foremen. An informative glossary and more than one hundred questions on workshop administration and industrial management called from A.M.I.E., Calcutta University, Jadavpur University, Delhi University, Punjab University, B.O.A.T. and State Council papers have enriched the book to a great extent. We trust the book will have universal appreciation from workers, supervisors, managers and students.
