Compulsory full-time education extends from the age of five to that of fifteen years with provisions under the Education Act of 1944 for a later increase of the higher or School-leaving age to sixteen years. The Act also provides for compulsory part-time attendance at day continuation schools, to be known as County Colleges upto the age of eighteen years. Such attendance will normally be effected by release from employment on one day per week, but the relevant clauses of the Act have not yet been put into operation.
