Engineering Economics

An old definition of Engineer is one who can do a thing for one pound, which a fool would do for ten pounds. It is not a question of complex but the idea of throwing an Engineer against a fool, is an indication of Engineer's position in society in good old days. Are Engineers entitled to better definition in these days?.
