Recent shortages of food grains have emphasised the necessity of providing planned storage. The substantial losses incurred through the ravages of vermin and deterioration from other causes have led lo the construction of silos, which are proof against such hazards. In course of time silos are likely to become a common feature in every village and town as in the Western countries, due to their manifold economies and advantages. Storage to be successful requires attention to a number of considerations-preservation of quality, maximum utilisation of space, protection against the hazards of moisture, vermin and fire and economy of cost and maintenance, to mention but a few.
