On 2nd March, 1952, the Association of Engineers had the pleasure of a visit to HABRA-the site where the Govt. of West Bengal is constructing dwelling houses for rehabilitation of Refugees from East Pakistan. The site is about 30 miles North-East of Calcutta and is approachable by a fine motorable road known as the Jessore Road. There is also a railway station about two and a half miles from the site. It is the site of a war time aeroplane landing ground where there had been a long, paved runway, over a 100 ft. wide. Of this a width of 80 ft. has been retained as a road way and the rest broken up and used for material for building the houses on either side.
