Sliding Shuttering

The use of Sliding Shuttering is new in India, but many of the bigger contractors in advanced countries have been using this form of constructions for some years past. It is believed, this method was first adopted in India with the successful construction of Silos, Chimnies etc., carried out by the Associated Cement Companies Ltd., in their different factories. Recently, in their Chaibasa Works, this method was carried out in a very thorough manner under the efficient guidance of their seniormost Works Manager, Mr. C. C. Turner. The writer having had a chance of collecting most valuable informations from the said Manager during the construction, an attempt has been made in this article, just to give an idea with the ambition of popularising this construction. As far as possible, a few sketches are also given for the purpose of elucidation. It is needless to describe here the full construction of the structure; only the actual operation of Sliding Shuttering is briefly explained below.
