It is seldom that reference is made through the Technical press to any Shipbuilding in India though news of foreign construction is often placed in the limelight. This neglect of purely Indian News is responsible for the general erroneous belief that ships are not built in India and that Indian shipbuilding is of no consequence to Indian prosperity, and so not worth the space in which it is mentioned. The opportunity offered by the Hony, Secretary's call for a paper to be read at this Anniversary of the Association of Engineers has been taken to place on record some of the conditions under which the Shipbuilding Industry is carried on in India and it is expected that at the moment of presentation these notes will also be of topical interest.
