Modern Trend in Bridge Design

At the very outset 1 must admit that when I was approached by the Symposium Committee for the honour of presenting this paper, very little time was found at my disposal even to think as to what should be the kind of presentation that would interest this august gathering. Keeping in view that this is a symposium on Materials of Construction, I felt that I should attempt to focus on some of the points on Bridge Construction that may not have received as much importance in consideration as they ought to deserve, having to play an important part in the planning of such structures.
