Hints on Pre-Commissioning Tests and Subsequent Maintenance of Power Transformers

Although power transformers require less care and attention than almost any other kind of electrical power apparatus, the conditions under which these transformers have to operate should determine the frequency with which they should be inspected for proper maintenance. Transformers which are being subjected to un usually severe operating conditions, such as, over loads, frequent short circuits etc. should be inspected at least once a year thoroughly. Transformers rated above 500 KVA may be classed as power transformers for all practical purposes.
