Structure of Engineering Profession

In the absence of any system of registration of professional engineers, similar to the registration of lawyers by bar council or physicians by medical council, persons practising engineering are at liberty to attribute to themselves the appellation of “ENGINEER” without any restrain. In fact, the last census report has shown, that individual census slips furnished by occupants of premises have been accepted without verification and whoever has stated that he is an “Engineer” has been enumerated as such. This may account for the discrepancy in the statistics of Engineers in the country and there is no wonder that diverse figures are given by the ministers in their speeches, the employment exchange and so on.
