Surveying is a vast and complex subject. The need for adequate maps has always been felt ever since the dawn of civilization-be it for proper administration of the country or exploitation of natural resources or else for the general development activity to make life more comfortable and worth living. There is sufficient evidence to show that some form of measurement of land was carried out in Egypt as far back as 3000 B.C.
