Augusto Gansser (1910 – 2012)

Augusto Gansser-Biaggi was born on 28 October 1910, at Milano, Italy. He was a Swiss national. He studied Geology at Zürich University, and at the age of 24, joined a scientific expedition to East Greenland led by Lauge Koch a Danish Geologist in 1934. He obtained his geological degree at Zürich in 1936. In the same year he took part in the first Swiss geological expedition to the Himalaya and Southern Tibet, led by Prof. Arnold Heim. Gansser’s contribution to the success of the expedition received appreciation from his senior colleagues.
