The paper briefly describes the carbonatite complexes and discusses their relationship with the structure of Narmada rift valley in the light of the crustal disturbances of Hercynian Era and the great Deccan volcanic episode of the early Tertiary epoch.

Narmada valley being a long east-west fault zone accompanied by central volcanoes with alkali basalt, trachytes and nepheline bearing rocks, a detailed study and exploration of this region may bring to light many more carbonatite complexes both in the form of plugs and dyke-like intrusions emplaced along fault planes, which may have great economic significance as fluorite, barytc, anhydrite, niobium, rare earths, lead and radioactive minerals are known to be associated with them.
