Computer Modelling for Regional Groundwater Simulation and Estimation of Irrigation Potential For Vedavati River Basin* - Summary of Findings

Vedavati River drainage basin covering an area of 24,200 km2 falls in the monsoon depression zone and is prone to frequent drought conditions. The study is mainly directed to get as near a physical definition of the actual basin which would enable a systematic mathematical treatment. A mathematical model has been formulated and on the basis of this, a computer program was developed. The model was calibrated using field data and it is found useful in making reliable forecast of groundwater potential, for safe yield in order to prevent over exploitation.
