Evidence of life from Dharwar greenstone belts has been reported by previous workers. Biologic origin of these forms, however, has been doubted. Filamentous bodies described from the Dodguni cherts have been considered to be mineralogic artifacts, The present study adduces fresh evidences gathered from examination of thin sections under scanning electron microscope, microchemical tests, and organic geochemical studies, in support of biogenic origin of these microfossils.

Abstract

Evidence of life from Dharwar greenstone belts has been reported by previous workers. Biologic origin of these forms, however, has been doubted. Filamentous bodies described from the Dodguni cherts have been considered to be mineralogic artifacts, The present study adduces fresh evidences gathered from examination of thin sections under scanning electron microscope, microchemical tests, and organic geochemical studies, in support of biogenic origin of these microfossils.
