A neutron activation analysis method based on thermal neutron irradiation from 241Am-Be source is suggested for the determination of Mn in pyrolusites. The method uses 55Mn (n, γ) 56Mn reaction and counting of 0.847 MeV γ-rays on NaI (Tl) detector coupled with single channel analyzer. The method has been employed for the analysis of pyrolusites and results were found in good agreement with those from conventional chemical methods. The method is fast, non-destructive and economic and can be used for the determination of Mn in its ores.
