Integrated analysis of field data indicates that the Thar desert had a longer network of drainage in the past. Saraswati had been one of the major rivers. Aerial photointerpretation has been useful in definite identification of Kantli palaeo-channels in areas adjacent to the Aravalli hills. Signatures of palaeo-channels on space imagery are sometimes misleading as similar reflections are recorded from dunal depressions also and, hence. must not be thought of as indicating groundwater potential zones.

Abstract

Integrated analysis of field data indicates that the Thar desert had a longer network of drainage in the past. Saraswati had been one of the major rivers. Aerial photointerpretation has been useful in definite identification of Kantli palaeo-channels in areas adjacent to the Aravalli hills. Signatures of palaeo-channels on space imagery are sometimes misleading as similar reflections are recorded from dunal depressions also and, hence. must not be thought of as indicating groundwater potential zones.
