Abstract
The mappability, distinctive lithology and fossil content of the Yerrapalli Formation of the Pranhita-Gcrdavari valley, Deccan, India show that it is a vatid lithostraligraphic unit of the rank of Formation. The vertebrate fossils give all early Middle Triassic age. The Gondwanas of Pranhita- Godavari valley provide one of the most complete Triassic Gondwana sequence in India as well as in the world. The importance of the Middle Triassic continental deposits of the valley in stratigraphic correlation is also discussed.
