A study of 41 samples from the Karai-Kulakkanatham traverse revealed the presence of the genus Whiteinella which is recorded for the first time in this area. Three species of Whiteinella were identified. They are: Whiteinella archaeocretucea Pessagno, W. baltica Douglas and Rankin and W. brittonensis (Loeblich and Tappan). The position of Cenomanian - Turonian boundary event (CTBE) is placed between Rotalipora cushmani Zone and Whiteinella archaeacretacea Zone. The morphological description and stratigraphical importance of this species are discussed. Keywords
