Reinventing the Congress Party:Policies and Strategies in the Second Generation Reforms

After being pushed from its age-old image of the 'natural party of governance' to the 'national opposition party', due to the desperate tendencies of the 1990s, like mandal, mandir and market, the Congress party is undergoing a process of introspection in the second generation reforms. This article analyses the policies and strategies of the Congress party in relation of the role of 'market' (economic liberalisation) under the economic management of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government.
