Anxiety at the Workplace-A HR Management Perspective

Stress at the workplace and how to cope with it has been studied and researched a lot. However anxiety has not been studied much. Most of the available studies and research on anxiety tend to focus on the clinical aspect. These studies normally deal with anxiety disorders that are categorized or classified clinically. Due to the clinical angle this may not be discussed about too much by an individual. In the workplace this may be a deterrent for growth. The Human Resource function in the organization, as a part of employee welfare can take up this challenge. The training and development function of the organization also needs to understand this requirement and provide the employees with trainings and workshops to manage anxiety before it requires clinical intervention. The paper attempts to look at anxiety from a management perspective i.e. if anxiety can be dealt with before it turns clinical, requiring it to be managed with drugs. The paper uses secondary data from various sources to establish the gravity of the problem and tries to conceptualize how it can be managed avoiding clinical intervention. It can be found that the human resource function can try to alleviate and manage the anxiety of the employees to the part related to the job and can help the employees with their personal anxiety issues. The study findings will definitely add value to the HR management function.
