Calibration Method for Open Short Terminations Used in VNA Measurements

The conventional method of VSWR measurement using Vector Network Analyzer (VNA) is carried out in the Laboratory by using known impedance calibration standards such as Open-Short-Mismatch terminations. The measurement uncertainty of the calibrated VNA system is directly proportional to the uncertainty of the known quantities of these standards. The mismatch terminations were calibrated at NPL. The uncertainty of Open and Short is also required to be considered for estimating the uncertainty of VNA. The in house facility is made use for developing the procedure to carry out the calibration for Open and Short terminations. This paper gives the practical method of implementation of calibration of Open-Short terminations by establishing traceability and uncertainty factors.
