There are a variety of technologies for digitally acquiring the shape of a 3D object. Broadly it can be classified in two categories i.e. contact and non-contact. The Laser technology which falls under non contact type active scanning technique uses Time-of-flight or triangulation 3D laser scanner to probe the object. In Laser Scanning data is collected by a computer and recorded as data points within three-dimensional space, with processing this con be converted into a triangulated mesh and then a Computer-aided design model, often as Nonuniform rational B-spline surfaces. This paper presents the evolved measurement methodologies with the help of CMM, Portable Laser Scanner and other conventional measurement instruments to generate 3D CAD models & engineering drawings and evaluate the critical parameters for missile subsystems.
