Expectations on today's production measuring technology ore largely focused on shopfloor application and the rough environmental conditions encountered there. The trend is obvious. Measurement is being shifted from the metrology room into the manufacturing process, which considerably reduces reaction times. Shop floor machines should have ease of operation by production staff and ability to provide metrology room precision in a manufacturing environment despite poor temperature conditions, dirt and floor vibrations.
