Circularity Analysis in Micro Electrical Discharge Machining of EN-24 Die Steel

The demand for micro-products and components has been rapidly increasing in electronics, optics, medicine, biotechnology, automotive, communications and avionics industries. Introduction of micro electronics and related technologies brought quantum change in products and applications. The miniaturized products demand innovative manufacturing methods. Micro-EDM is one of the most powerful technologies which are capable of fabricating micro-structure. In this work, EN-24 die steel as workpiece, Cu and CuW as electrodes of 250 μm diameter are used to drill blind holes of 500 μm depth. The comparative analysis of circularity of holes machined by micro-EDM and Heat affected zone are presented.
