Development of Production Planning & Control Module of an ERP System for a Small Scale Industry

Standard ERP systems, though provide many benefits in terms of real time data integration and decision support, may prove to be costly for medium scale and especially small scale industries depriving them of operational advantages. Hence, there lies need to develop tailor made ERP solutions or few of its relevant modules which would be cost effective, shall take less time for development and will not need specialized training as the case with standard ERP packages. This paper presents the work done for design and development of production planning&control module of an ERP system for Malati Founders Pvt. Ltd. (MFPL), a small scale company based in Laxmi industrial estate of Hatkanangale, Dist.-Kolhapur (Maharastra) India. Various considerations involved during the development work like system constraints, database needs, input sources, algorithms have been dealt herewith. The paper attempts to highlight advantages, which can be garnered by small scale units by using tailor made ERP systems or relevant modules at affordable costs and with much simplicity in terms of development efforts and usage.
