The present paper highlights the features of development of the mathematical models for correlating the interactive and higher order influences of the various operating parameters on the burr size at the exit of the holes in drilling through Statistical Design of Experiments. Fractional factorial technique is used to conduct the experiments. The response factors, namely, burr height and burr thickness as affected by, cutting speed, feed rate, drill diameter, point angle and clearance angle have been investigated and analyzed. Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) was employed to check the adequacy of the models so developed and student’s t-test was employed to check the significance of each factor to arrive at the final form of the mathematical models. The models so developed are utilized to determine the values of response parameters for each given set of variables within the ranges selected.

Abstract

The present paper highlights the features of development of the mathematical models for correlating the interactive and higher order influences of the various operating parameters on the burr size at the exit of the holes in drilling through Statistical Design of Experiments. Fractional factorial technique is used to conduct the experiments.
