Hydro-mechanical deep drawing is a process for producing cup shaped parts with the assistance of a pressurized fluid. The development of hydro-mechanical deep drawing process is reviewed in this paper. Findings of different researchers and the applications of the process are described. A comparison is made between various counter-pressure processes. The advantages of the processes over conventional deep drawing are discussed. Design of hydro-mechanical deep drawing requires detailed considerations than that for the forming of components with conventional deep drawing. Analytical and Finite element simulations were conducted to find out the different features of tooling design for hydro-mechanical deep drawing.
