Did you know that the first patent law in India was enacted about 146 years back, in 1856? Yes, the patent law received the assent of the Governor General (GG) on February 28, 1856, one year before the first war of Indian independence in 1857. Since 1856 till now there has never been a single occasion when India did not have a patent law in place. It does appear surprising some times to come face to face with the fact that the awareness about patents has been so poor in the country until recently.
