Diamond machining is an ultra precision machining process of generating optical quality surfaces, using Single point diamond tools. The atomic level sharpness and the nick-free smooth cutting edge of the mono-crystalline diamond tool along with the vibration free and super precision characteristics of the machine tool ensures nano-mertic level surface finish and form accuracy of the order of a micron or even better on the machined components. This paper deals with the characteristics of the process, the machine and its application in various fields.
