Community Response to COVID Pandemic in Karnataka State

The microfinance sector has flourished in the state of Karnataka for over 25 years. Currently, the state stands second in the country in terms of outstanding credit and client reach. There are a blend of institutions working in Karnataka ranging from business correspondents, trusts and societies, non-banking financial companies (NBFC), small finance banks and NBFC-microfinance institutions (NBFC-MFIs). This paper examines how MFIs responded to COVID–19 induced lockdown.
