Abstract

The rapid development of telecommunication technologies, particularly in the area of data transport in broadband telecommunications services such as video conferencing, remote database access etc requiring flexible high quality networks with a high level of protection and demand for minimisation of manual control by automatic software controlled network management led to the design of a new family of equipments and new network topologies based on Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH).

Abstract

Meghnad Saha was bom on 6 October 1893 at Seoratali, a village of erstwhile East Bengal, now in Bangladesh. A boy from a very poor family, he started his primary education at Simulia and later joined the Collegiate School at Dacca. A brilliant boy with a photographic memory and an aptitude for learning, Meghnad became the favourite student of his teachers.

Abstract

Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis was born on June 29, 1893. After his brilliant performance in matriculation examination, he did his B.Sc (Honours) from Calcutta University in 1912 and later M.A. from Cambridge University in 1915. On his return to India he joined the Calcutta University as Professor of Physics in 1915 and later headed Department of Physics in the University from 1922 to 1945 and was attached to it till 1948.

Abstract

Chemists in the USA have made a device capable of detecting tiny amount of soluble uranium, which can be toxic inspite of the amount. It can spot very low-level contamination and also pick out uranium from the other heavy metals that look like it in solution : such as zinc, lead and cadmium. The device is mainly shaped as a pocket kit for instant on-site analyses.
