Abstract

This paper presents the theory of rough sets as a mathematical model of vague or inexact data. As well as it's application as a data mining tool for rule generation, out of large data. The domain of data has been taken from the training data of National Institute of Technical Teachers' Training&Research, Kolkata. ROSETTA, a rough set theoretic application tool developed at Warsaw University, Poland, has been used for the purpose. The rules generated through experiment reveal interesting knowledge hidden in the un-organized data of the target domain.

Abstract

The Strong Al Thesis argues that a computing machine, while simulating some intelligent behaviour with the help o f an algorithm running on it, actually shows intelligent behaviour. According to this thesis, there is no essential distinction between a natural phenomenon and a simulation o f that phenomenon. John Searle, an American philosopher, strongly opposed this view. He put forward an intuitively appealing argument known as the Chinese Room argument. In this article, the author reflects upon Searie's Chinese Room argument and suggests that a deeper understanding o f the nature o f the human consciousness is required to settle the dispute.

Abstract

Quantum computation is a promising field of study because the conventional computer hardware is fast reaching its limit of computational power. A further advancement can be achieved only by a completely different set of physical properties and operations. This paper presents a brief overview of the fundamental concepts of quantum computation. The concept of a quantum bit, in contrast with the classical bit, is explained. The quantum logic gates ana quantum circuits are described along with appropiate examples. Quantum parallelism, a phenomenon that is at the ischolar_main of the power of quantum computation, is explained briefly.

Abstract

The purpose of this technical magazine is to provide a platform for the students, teachers, technical as well as non-technical staff of the college to express their work, ideas, views, opinions, etc. related to science and technology. Cognition and creation are two major modes in which the human mind works while it endeavours to establish a relationship with the outward reality. The outcome of cognition is knowledge which gives us power, power to master the world. And the outcome of creation is an object, an entity,^ which the world did not have before the act of creation and which the world has, could only have, after the act of creation. There is another outcome of creation which is personal to the creative mind.

Abstract

Galileo established science (throughout this text I shall consider Physics as the paradigm of science) as an independent and autonomous cognitive process. He did this with the introduction of the concept of experiment into the methodology of science. Before Galileo science was just a part of philosophy in general where the methodology is observation followed by intellectual speculation or, sometimes, purely intellectual speculation. Galileo distinguished science from philosophy, once and for all, by establishing experimentation as an integral part of scientific investigation of the nature of reality.
