Odonata are one of the ancient orders of Insects that appeared during the Permian period, about 250 million years ago. There are fossil records of dragonflies much before the advent of dinosaurs. Some of the fossil Dragonflies have wingspans of 60 cm. Modern odonates are smaller, but have changed structurally very little since ancient times. They are among the most beautiful and amazing insects flying today.
