Abstract

Ce³⁺and Eu²⁺co-doped LaMgAl₁₁O₁₉, hexaaluminate phosphor has been successfully synthesized by one step combustion synthesis method using mixture of two fuels. Photoluminescence excitation and emission spectra are investigated in detail. Ce³⁺ and Eu²⁺activated phosphors show emission bands at 350 nm and 445 nm respectively in ultraviolet and blue region. Energy transfer behavior is observed from Ce³⁺ to Eu²⁺, which yields intense blue color emission at 445 nm. Concentration Quenching due to dipole–dipole interaction is observed. Maximum intensity of co-doped LaMgAl₁₁O₁₉ phosphor is obtained at 5 mole% of Cerium and 3 mole% of Europium. The CIE chromaticity of LAM:Ce³⁺, Eu²⁺ phosphor was compared with the commercial BAM. LaMgAl₁₁O₁₉, rare earth activated phosphor has potential candidate for UV LED, white LED and UV LASERs.
