Author Details

Zizyphus jujuba has been used principally by the people from ancient period of time as folk medicines, supplement for food and dietary use. It belongs to family Rhamnaceae. It is the spiny tree and also a evergreen shrub. Fruit, bark, leaves and root of the plant possess various medicinal properties. It enchants number of pharmacological activities such as expectorant, antiulcer, anti-tussive, wound healing, anti-diarrheal, antibacterial, skin rejuvenating, anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, hepatoprotective, immunomodulatory, nephroprotective, anticancer, hypoglycaemic, etc. These pharmacological activities are responsible due to presence of various phytoconstituents in the plant parts. The bark of the ZJ contains various phytochemicals such as terpenes, alkaloids, tannins, flavonoids, terpenoids, phenolic acids, saponins, etc. The further study has been performed for pharmacognostical and phytochemical study including qualitative as well as quantitative estimation of extract using number of evaluation tests and methods.

Abstract

A completely unique coronavirus (2019-n Cov) formally reffered to as severe acute respiratory syndromes [SARS Cov 2] appeared in wuhan, china. The coronavirus infectious disease 2019 (covid 19) has speechless like a shock in fully unprepared world. Covid 19 caused by the novel severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS Cov 2). Covid 19 first emerged in December 2019 all in cluster of patients with the pneumonia of unknown cause was recognized in Wuhan, China. In july 2020, SARS Cov2 was affected more than 200 countries. The coronavirus fevered 79% and 50% genomic similarities with severe acute respiratory syndromes coronavirus 2 [SARS Cov 2] and middle east respiratory syndromes coronavirus [MERS Cov 2] respectively. Several drugs have been investigated for their efficacy and safety in the treatment of covid 19 disease like antiviral, antimalerials, antibiotics immunomodulators, anticoagulants.

Abstract

The Celastrus paniculatus wild belongs to family Celastraceae. In Ayurveda is known as ‘Tree of life’ and ‘Elixir of life’. It is commonly known as Malkangani and Jyothishmati in Hindi and Sanskrit respectively. The plant contains bioactive compound such as Alkaloids, Tannins, Flavonoids, Saponins, Steroids, Terpenoids, Phlobatannins, Cardiac Glycosides and Phenolic Compound. seed oil are the most used parts of this deciduous plant and oral and intranasal routes are most preferred for delivering this drug in Ayurveda. Different studies have show that it has various pharmacological activities which involve neuroprotective activity, rejuvenative activity, cardiovascular activity, analgesic activity, anti-inflammatory activity, anti-infertility activity, antioxidant activity, free radical scavenging activity anti-arthritic activity etc. Mainly oil from seeds is used for stimulating intellect, sharpening memory and in the treatment of brain related disorder of all the age category. It also reported as a potential nervine tonic, rejuvenator and an anti-depressant. Celastrus paniculatus Willd is one of the medicinal plant having its importance in health care system as a indegenous medicinal plant also. The seed involve steroid alkaloids and bright natural coloring matter, celapanine, celapanigine, celapagine, celastrine, and paniculatine are the important alkaloids.

Abstract

Gymnema sylvestre (Gs) is a well proven anti diabetic plant and used in Indian system of medicine for long period. A new variant of Gs was identified having hairy leaf. This Gs hairy variant species was subjected for pharmacognostical studies and screened for phytochemical analysis and correlated with the previous work done normal non hairy species. The leaves were analyzed for macroscopic and microscopic characteristics by taking microtome sectioning and stained for viewing in slides. The dried powdered leaf was subjected to fluorescent study using chemical reagents and viewed under visible and UV light to study the coloring pattern of the powdered particles interacting with the reagents. The powder was subjected for physicochemical studies using Indian Ayurvedic Pharamacopoeia procedure. The different extractions were done by using 100%, 50% ethanol and water. These extracts were subjected for preliminary qualitative analysis, quantitative estimation of terpenoides, alkaloids and marker compound Glycemnic acid.

Abstract

Gymnema sylvestre is a plant included in Apocynaceae family and is located in many regions of Asia, Africa and Australia. It is known to have blood glucose lowering potential and, thus, is widely used in traditional and Ayurvedic systems of medicine. A scrutiny of literature revealed some notable pharmacological activities of the plant such as antidiabetic, antiobesity, hypolipidaemic, antimicrobial, free radical scavenging and anti-inflammatory. The phytoconstituents responsible for sweet suppression activity includes triterpene saponins known as gymnemic acids, gymnemasaponins, and a polypeptide, gurmarin. Efforts have been made to prepare gudmar dried extract. These extracts were subjected for preliminary qualitative analysis, quantitative estimation of terpenoides, alkaloids and various other compounds. The present review is an attempt to highlight the phytochemical screening as well as its extraction process. Also chromatographic studies gave the presence of different compounds which can be used in creating monograph for this species.
