Lignin is the most structurally complex carbohydrate consisting of various bilogically stable linkages. It has been estimated that lignin constitutes 30-35% of the earth's non-fossil organic carbon. Lignin degradation plays an important role in carbon recycling and biofuel production. Industrial waste treatment through chemical approaches is not only expensive but also toxic to environment. Lignin degrading enzymes from microbes contribute a major role in the degradation of industrial effluents. Fungi and bacteria are good sources of effluent hydrolyzing enzymes such as lignin peroxidase, laccase, manganese peroxidase etc. However, there are very few research activities regarding role of microbes in lignin degradation. Lignin hydrolysis using various microbes with eco-friendly approach is a challenge for researchers globally. Therefore, in order to reduce the adverse effect of industrial effluent on environment, the quest for inexpensive, sustainable and eco-friendly approach is indispensable. The current review focuses to enlighten a comprehensive and broad analysis of lignin degradation ability of various fungal and bacterial sources using their ligninolytic machinery system.Keywords

The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of cold storage of Chinese cabbage on the content of glucosinolates (GSLs). High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) separation method guided to identify and quantify eleven GSLs including six aliphatic (progoitrin, sinigrin, gluconapoleiferin, gluconapin, glucocochlearin and glucobrassicanapin), four indolyl (4-hydroxyglucobrassicin, glucobrassicin, 4-methoxyglucobrassicin and neoglucobrasscin) and one aromatic (gluconasturtiin) respectively. Storage at 4 °C for 72 h, the content of total GSLs were gradually decreased from 13.1 to 7.41 μmol/g dry weight (DW), whereas, approximately 63 and 55% content of aliphatic and indolyl GSLs were reduced. This finding suggests that the nutritional contents of Chinese cabbage, especially GLSs could not be preserved for a long time in the cold storage condition.Keywords

In the present study, a fibrinolytic enzyme from Paenibacillus sp. IND8 was isolated and characterized. This enzyme was purified by 12.4-fold using ammonium sulphate precipitation, diethyl amino ethyl-cellulose, and casein–agarose column chromatography. The purified enzyme showed homogenous in terms of sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis with a molecular weight of 44 kDa. This enzyme depicted an optimal pH of 7.0 and was stable at pH 7.0–9.0. The optimal temperature was found to be 40°C and was highly stable at this temperature. The enzyme activity was inhibited by the addition of tested ions. The fibrinolytic enzyme dissolved fibrin net of blood clot completely in vitro, which may have potent application in the treatment of myocardial infarction.Keywords
