Health Insurance National Card Policy in Gezira Central Sudan (2010-2012)

National health insurance card policy NHIC was implemented since late 2005 in Sudan. This card gives its holder the right to be treated at any health institution providing medical services for health insurance in any state. The current study aimed to assess the NHIC policy in Gezira state central Sudan.

This study was designed as Retrospective descriptive study. The data of frequency and cost of services provided was collected from registries and reports during period from January 2010 to December 2012.

Sennar state is the highest in total frequency and total cost. The 75% of medications cost represents 49% of total cost. The average cost per head for all states is 54 SDG. The total cost of national health insurance card represent 4.16% of total services cost.

There is diminished information system in the states. No clearinghouse system between states. The services packages provided to NHIC holders in Gezira state are so attractive. There is diminished services package in other state.
