Anharmonic Properties of Thorium Oxide
For Thorium Oxide being face centered cubic crystal; the Coulomb and Born- Mayer potentials are used to obtain higher order elastic constants starting from nearest neighbor distance and hardness parameter. These elastic constants are helpful in studying the non-linearity of substance for this work. Utilizing these higher order elastic constants; the non-linear properties such as pressure derivatives, partial contractions, Grüneisen numbers, non-linearity constants, ultrasonic velocities, thermal relaxation time and ultrasonic attenuation are computed at higher temperatures. Some values are tabulated at room temperature and temperature variation of data is shown graphically. These results are used in explaining various properties of material under study.
